timing belt is ruber belt conect the camshaft and crankshaft, some cars may have timing chain, the manufacture suggest change the timing belt every 60000 miles, but most people change it around 90000 miles with no problem, if the timing belt is break, it will spell out the end of your engine, it dosen't sounds like the timing belt problem.
