Nissan Motor will introduce its latest super sports car GT-R to China this year, to be priced at one million yuan($147,000) or more, Beijing News reported today.
The 2009 Nissan GT-R features an all-new 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 producing 480 horsepower and 588 nm of torque, and meets ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) standards. The GT-R's powertrain is good at accelerating from zero to 98 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
The GT-R has been available first in the North American market since June 2008. The retail price of the sports car starts at $69,850-$71,900 for the premium edition in the United States. The only transmission that will be available in the GT-R is a GR6 dual-clutch six-speed.
Ren Yong, vice general manager of Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicles Co., said the company will choose strong dealers in some key cities to sell the GT-R, given the highly demanding after-sales maintenance of the super sports car.
Nissan has seen its imported car business shrink in China where the Japanese carmaker has focused itself on Infiniti sales. GT-R's introduction is reportedly meant for improving the Nissan brand but not for sales.
