In the good old days it went like this:

-I deplore what you say but will defend your right to say it
-Counter protesters move in.
-Cops separate them.
-Everyone says what they want and go home.OK

Now it looks like the formula is:

-I deplore what you say, You're not welcome here
-Cops stand down (per orders from above), allow counter protesters and protesters to fight.
-Media: See how violent and hateful those people are!
