Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia Corp. /quotes/zigman/162154/quotes/nls/nok NOK +5.52% said Wednesday it is launching a new Windows-based Lumia handset in partnership with China's biggest operator, China Mobile Ltd. , aiming to reach out to more consumers in the Chinese smartphone market.
The Lumia 920T device, which offers features such as advanced location services and photography technology, is China's first Windows phone making use of the country's TD-SCDMA technical standard, Nokia said in a statement.
The device will be available for order by the end of the current year at a retail price of 4,599 yuan ($739) without contract, it added.
Nokia is betting heavily on its range of high-end Lumia smartphones, based on Microsoft Corp's /quotes/zigman/20493/quotes/nls/msft MSFT -0.22% Windows platform, as it battles fast-growing rivals including iPhone-maker Apple Inc and vendors of Android-based handsets such as South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.
Shares in Nokia closed Tuesday at EUR2.53.
