Zanesville’s law director avoided jail time after he was found guilty today of soliciting a prostitute.
Scott Hillis, 48, pleaded no contest in Muskingum County Court to misdemeanor charges of soliciting and criminal trespassing. A judge fined him $400 and suspended a 30-day jail sentence as long as he pays his fines, completes 30hours of community service and avoids criminal conviction for two years. Hillis’ driver’s license also was suspended for 90 days.
Hillis paid a prostitute $60 to perform a sex act on him over the lunch hour on July 19, said Muskingum County Prosecutor D. Michael Haddox. The two parked in a stranger’s driveway and were spotted by someone who reported the suspicious vehicle to police.
Hillis told the court that he has reported himself to the state’s Disciplinary Council to see whether the conviction might affect his law license, Haddox said. The divorced father of two told WBNS-TV (Channel 10) that he has no plans to resign from his elected post. His term ends in 2015.
