I am preparing my son's 5th birthday also. usually, I invite whole class, but not all of them will come, especially the school is just started, kids are not very close yet. Last year, only half of them came. Since your son is older than mine, he might has some friends already, then you can invite them only. Otherwise you can invite all and don't expect all of them will come. However, you might also need to count how many siblings from his classmate will come, since most of them have "big families":)
