Agree. But no matter how good the kids are, Ivy schools are always reach schools for most of these kids. Most of kids who can get in are good and lucky. A lot of good kids are not lucky enough to get in. Several possibilities:
1. Ivy material: Working hard will raise your chance but no guarantee;
2. Not an Ivy material: No matter what you do and the chance is extremely slim;
3. Between the above two: Working hard will DRAMATICALLY raise your chance. But may still fall short.
Asian students are the kids of highly educated parents so they are not a representative sample of whole Asian population. They should do better than general population. But high education of parents does not necessarily mean they have a higher IQ. A lot of them were pushed by their parents to reach this level. Needless to say, IQ may not always pass to their kids. We have to understand that not all of our kids are Ivy materials.
I do not think going to non-Ivy will be end of the world. A lot of them are highly successful. I do not understand why they all want their kids go to Ivy schools.
