Great Budget-Minded Vacation of 2008, MCS Lirica Cruise
As in the past, I’ve always taken a cruise vacation in the late fall every year. This time, I booked with MSC, an Italian line new to the US market, offered great prices.
Cruise fare was booked back in March, $399 per adult inside cabin, kids travel free, for the family of 4, total cost $1124 including tax, 8 day 7 nights Caribbean cruise out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
We planed to drive down to Florida so we can utilize the van, and stay in Orlando area post cruises. Later found out wife cannot go along at the last minute due to her family visiting, so we decide to skip all the shopping and try to hit every beach we come cross.
Day 1, from Indiana to Atlanta, GA, visited the Georgia Aquarium, used 3 Comeback Soon coupons bought at Ebay ($7.50), admission for three is $45 total instead of $29.50 per person at the door.
Day 2. Fort Lauderdale, 1 night hotel at Avalon water front inn at A1A thru price line, $51.00 including tax, this hotel is pretty old, it consist of 2 building, the front building is much nicer, staff was great, requested an upgrade room in the front building, no problem, location is 5 star, next door is trump tower, nice walk cross street is Fort Lauderdale beach, maintained by the city, life guard on site, nice powdery sand, gentle waves, one of the best free beach!!! Jump in the heated pool at the hotel after few hours at the beach. Ate by Sloppy Joe’s up the street, used certificates from restaurant.com (80% off sale, $10 certificate for 60 cents), cost $28 ($10 tip).
Day 3. Part the van at United Parking, free shuttle to and pick up to cruise port, booked online, cost $48.00 for 8 days parking. Got on cruise ship at 2:00, embarkment was a breeze, 10 minutes we are in the room, 9th floor, inside cabin. MSC Lirica is smaller ship compare to others, only 1800 passengers, everything is spotless, many Europeans, announcement spoke in 5 languages. After lunch, kids spend few house in the pool and hot tub. Dinner is 2nd sitting at 7:45, Had fish, good.
