Many things could happen after notice is given:
1. if the house has any equity in it, the owner could sale the property and walk away;
2. It could sell at the auction;
3. bank agree to a short sale. Own walks away and bank takes the loss;
4. become bank owned property REO sale.

to reach REO, it could take months. Anything could happen during the time.
