I lived and worked in Seattle and travle back to Vancouver almost every week for 4 years in 2000-2004.
I would like to give my cents accordding to my expence:
1. you can choose change or not change the driver licence in the Washington state. Keep BC licence: you could come back Canada anytime when you lost job, but you should pay more insurence than in Washington; change to Wanshington license, you pay less insurence fee. Another thing is TAX, if you do not want pay canada TAX, you should move family and sale your home and clean your investment account and give up the Canada driver license.
2. it is possible to share thr room in chinese owner house.
