in 35mm world there's a huge difference between
28mm and 36mm. However with these digital compact distortion is pretty bad on the wide end. With panaramic stiching software you probably won't miss much if you go with the S3. However in regards to the rest of the specs the S3 beats the SD800 hands down. I just took a quick skim through their specs. S3 has a faster lens, faster top shutter speed, longer focal length(432mm is very healthy), faster burst rate...
