The card is only a proof of your status

The card is only used to prove to others that you are legal permanent resident, so not having the card does not mean you are not a legal permanent resident, it only means you can not prove you are (or, harder to prove).
For example, if you lost your passport/national id, does that mean your citizenship is rovoked?
