80k life in CA

I know s Chines couple here in Southern California with 80k annual income. Here is the life I observed:
(1). They rent a 2 bedroom appartment, $1600/month, 1000 SF ( as big as 100 the so called Chinese "Square Meters" )
, the unit has washer/dryer, and in a nice community with pools/spas/gyms, lots of parks/playground nearby, in the (almost) best location in SCAL,- Irvine.

(2). Two cars, not luxury ones, but decent by Chinese standard, your normal Camry/Accord type.
(3). No big deal for them to upgrade to various electronics: Notebokk, Digital Camera, IPOD, etc.
(4). No big for them to go to variuous Theme Parks nearby, with annual passes;
(5). Some travels, including Vegas , National Parks nearby and ski trips;
(6). Cook themselves, but unless some upscale restraunts, why bother with something only half decent.
(7). Have cell phones, cables,
(8). Kid goes to variuous classes.

I believe they can get home $4500 to $5000 each month, the housing cost is 1/3.
This is hardly a miserable life, and I seriously doubt one can live in such standard ( for a whole family ) in SH, on 16k/month - 7k goes to housing alone if one doesn't got subsidized from parents.

Ofcourse, once you earn 250k beyond, and you don't have to pay for a 1m house, you don't have to worry about too much about spending on anything.
