Here are steps.
1) you need to buy a small can of body filler. Some sandpaper in differnt grits. A spray can of primer. And a spray can of matching color paint. And maybe a can of clear coat.
2) you need to carefully sand the area that they put body filler on. Make it supper smooth. If there are lower spots, apply more body filler. Use rougher sandpaper first and fine sandpaper to smooth out. You need to use sanding block with sandpapers. Body filler should be dry very fast in 30 minutes or so when you mixed with hardener.
3) You need to paint the whole door below window. Use heavy soap water to wash the door to clean off any wax residual.
4) Use fine sandpaper and scratch pad to sand the whole door. You do not need to take paint off. just to make surface rougher. Use fine sandpaper to finial clean up.
5) Shoot a thin layer of primer and let it dry. Use very fine sandpaper to make it smooth.
6) Tape your car with masking tape and paper. To avoid paint line showing on your door, you want to tape it carefully alone the rubber trim below your window. You want to cover at least 2-3 feet away from your painting area.
7) Now you are ready to paint. The spray can should be about 10oz can. Make sure you give correct color code when you buy it from autoparts store. Not every store can do custom mix paint. You need to find one. Ask the guy who sell you the paint. He should be able to give you a lot of advise on how to paint. Some paint has acrylic pre-mixed in it. So you do not need clear coat. Otherwise you need to shoot clear coat to finish. Again, ask the guy for advise.
8) When you shoot the paint, alway start from shooting on cover paper and move to the area need to paint - your door. And finish on the otherside cover paper in each run. Do not stop or slow down during each run. DO not paint too thick with each run. Remember you can not cover everything with one run. After you finish the first layer, let paint dry before you apply the second layer. With spray can, you probably need to put at least 3 layers (the spray nozzle is not as good as professional spray gun. Apply clear coat if needed.
Note, do not paint in a rainning day or very humid day. Temperature need to be above 50 F. If needed, practice on something such as newspaper first. Do not put too much paint each time. Do not let paint run or drip.
