Regarding getting off the WL, for MD,

He is not able to do anything now;

For MDPHD, if he truly had a great conversation with the interviewer (who also showed the enthusiasm to him) and is able to deeply talk about the research in the lab with his perspectives, he may contact the interviewer who might be able to push the last chance.
