Kids will get attention anyway they can. If being different will get attention from you (and away from his "good" brother,) he will find ways. Treat them both the same. Do not compare.
Let them know they are responsible for themselves, starting now. You are here to help them get ready before they have to walk into the jungle on their own. Not much time is left, and no energy is extra.
Be a role model by showing willingness to take responsibilities. Do not blame. Tell them there is a wonderful world outside, waiting for them to explore, but they must be responsible for themselves first.
