Lax is popular in Northeast like New York, NJ, MA, etc. but not in South. One exception is that Duke is famous for Lax but maybe a lot of players come from North. It's a tough game with lots of body contacts. Also, a lot of players are football players also so they get used to body contact. But if you are fast with good endurance and stick skills (which is a good fit for mid-field) then you can avoid most of the contacts. For little kids, Depending on coach, some teams play rougher than others. Because of limited strength and speed, little kids are relatively less tough. Same is true for girls. I personally think Lax is one of the most watchable sports. Also from the Lax coaches, you can play Lax for your whole life but not football. Good sport and highly encourage to give it a try. Equipments are expensive though.
