I learned about four benefits of mastering poetry.  They are language, perception, communication and compassion.

1. Language
Poetry is a powerful way of mastering language.
2. Perception
Poetry is a way of training and developing our emotional intelligence.
3. Communication
Poetry helps us realize that language is holistic. 
4. Compassion
Poetry helps both to enlarge our humanity and to give us the power to express it.
