Traffic can be terrible around DC. It is a good idea to stay close to your destination.

It can easily take 1-2 hours trying to get close to the cherry blossom spot, and parking is not easy to find during the cherry blossom days. So take the metro and do some walking, if all visitors are fit enough, or be prepared for the delay.
