Public's help sought in murder hunt

Detectives investigating the brutal murder of a family of four have issued a fresh appeal for information on a Coventry-based businessman two months after the killings.

Police are still hunting businessman Anxiang Du, 52, who is wanted in connection with the murders of Jifeng "Jeff" Ding, his wife Helen and their two daughters, Alice, 12, and 18-year-old Xing.

The family were found stabbed to death at their home in Wootton, Northampton, on Sunday May 1 after being killed on Friday April 29.

Prime suspect Du is a previous business associate of the couple - their relationship had soured and was the subject of a court case which reached a climax the week of the murders, police said.

It is thought he may have travelled to London in a Vauxhall Corsa that went missing from the family's home and was later found in a side street in St John's Wood in the capital.

Northamptonshire Police's new appeal for information also revealed that members of the victims' family were due to visit in July. Detective Superintendent Glyn Timmins said he hoped to be able to share more progress with them, but needed help from the public.

"We are very pleased that members of the Ding family are going to visit Northamptonshire in July and we will be talking them through the full police investigation," he said.

"We still have a large team of people working on this and can say with confidence that we are leaving no stone unturned. I personally would like to be able to share further progress on the investigation with the family when they visit - and we need the public's help to do this."

As the investigation moves towards a 10th week, he said locals in Wootton and the nearby area could play a vital part filling in gaps around prime suspect Du's movements on Friday April 29. He said they know the murders took place on the afternoon of the Royal Wedding so people might be able to remember where they were.

Du is described as 5ft 9ins, slim, with thinning hair and regularly wears a baseball cap to cover his head.
