I prefer split-level
at least every room has a window. The bottom-back quadrant of the bi-level might be totally dark and without air circulation.
Also, usually county tax roll only charge tax based on living area level or above the main entrance. In a bi-level, every inch is level or above the main entrance, while in split level, 1/3 of the house is below main entrance (not taxable) but is not really a basement.
But don't forget, location location location.
