it is still a good investment. Because relative to all other assets, it holds value better.

In 1929 depression, gold did really well, although average citizen in US was not allow to have it. When you have deflationary depression, value moves to gold to concentration.

p.s. If US has not accumulate so much debts, USD would do well as well. But it can not be said this time around.
