Over the years the Greece government has asked British government to return the statues.
Of course, the British wont return them.
On the other hand, when you really think about it, many treasures are better off being protected in Museums in places such as London, Paris, Rome, etc, than in their native places. For example, the Chinese treasures in Smithsonian definitely enjoy much better preservation than they could have been, should they be left in China, they may be all destroyed during the Cultural Revolution...
