I enjoyed hiking in the San Jacinto mountains. In the summer when temperature soars up to 110F on the desert floor, it is a breezy 70s on the top of the mountains. I found it amazing that you go through 4 different eco-zones in a 25-minute tram ride - equivalent from Baja California all the way up to Washington. The mountain town (on the other side) Idyllwild is also a worth while stop.
Interesting

I have been to the area a few times, but never went to most of the places you mentioned. I didn't know Palm Springs is popular among the G-community :)
