we saw tons of Chinese from mainland, congregated on the streets around Darling Harbour - really interested to know ow these Chinese made their livings in Sydney - there are seem to be a good size Chinese population there that do not hold a "normal" job, but selling gadgets on the streets. But those gadgets usually are cheap stuff, like $1 a piece. How do they make it?

I dont think that area can be considered "China Town" though there are a couple streets full of Chinese restaurants. (but only one or two that are good though).

In Melbourne, there is a very interesting "little Saigon", just north of the famous Victoria Market. There are lots of Chinese as well as Vietnamese shops and restaurants. Foods there are much better than the so-called China Town in Melbourne downtown. (and a lot cheaper too!) In Victoria Market, we saw stalls that are managed by Chinese and Vietnamese - looks to me they have their own farms, or fishing boats, and sell their produces / harvests in the market.
