把玉石当作宝贝 indeed is not a smart thing to do.

Collecting antique jade is one thing, at least you can argue the value of an antique artifact comes from the history associate with the stone.

Collecting jade based on its intrinsic value is a risky business, because there is no clear defination of what exact jade is and why it valueable. Is it the chemical composition of the stone, the structure of the stone, or where the stone is found? If there is no defination of what the real jade is, then how can you say anything is not a fake? If it looks like a jade and  priced as jade, must it be jade?

I for one have give on jade alltogether. Instead, I collect diamond/emerald/saphire/ruby. The stones are small and pricy, but at least I know what I have on hand.
