When Lin was benched in favor of TD for some minutes here and there, I saw some were jittering about what if Lin loses his starting role to TD. Now that Lin is hurt, Beverley played some good minutes, we are seeing similar reactions again. It's really not necessary. Backups work hard every single day to gain minutes, and their ultimate goals are to take starter's jobs. But that is only beneficial to starters. If your backup is serviceable, you won't be running to death. If your backup provides some competition to you, you are surely pushed to improve and become more consistent. But if your backup is clearly better than you are, well, you don't deserve that job anyways.
Now, let's ask ourselves, as much hope as we have put on Lin's shoulders (square ones, not great for tailors:)), how much faith do we really have in him and his ability? Do we believe that he can work on his weakness in the off-season and come back better and stronger? If we don't, why do we even support him? If we do have faith in him, that he will be better next season - meaning average or above average starting point guard, depends on standards, why would we ever worry about his job? If he can play consistently, why would we worry about ANY 3rd string backups?
Take it easy and enjoy the game.
