It was hard for me to swallow that Lin was not coming back to my Knicks at one point.  But blaming for the Knicks for this is not fair.  you can assume if the Knicks took the first move to made an offer of 3.5m to 4m then Lin may accept it, I could also assume if Lin took the first move to send a message to the Knicks that he would accept MLE, then I am pretty sure the Knicks would jump to the deal.

The point was that neither side willing to take the first move for above scenario because both sides expected Lin could get a bigger contract from a 3rd team.  So, I understand why they don't take the first move for any money below MLE between Lin and Knicks.

It was business decision made on both sides so it is 50/50.  I am glad it works out fine for both side at this point, and I hope they could move on for bigger success.
