Lin goes from his big movie to a big NBA victory

One day after seeing himself on the big screen during the final viewing of the documentary "Linsanity" at the Sundance Film Festival, Palo Alto High grad Jeremy Lin was back on the NBA floor helping his Houston Rockets win.

Lin, who was in Park City, Utah, on Sunday to watch the film along with 600 movie fans, didn't have far to travel on Monday as the Rockets visited the Utah Jazz.

With Lin scoring 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting with seven assists, three steals and two rebounds, the Rockets continued to bounce back from an earlier slump with a 125-80 victory on Monday night.

It was Houston's fourth victory in five games since it suffered through a seven-game losing streak.

For the Jazz, it was their worst home defeat in franchise history. It was also the first time Utah lost by more than 40 points since Feb. 4, 2000.

"We moved the ball. We shared the ball," said Lin. "We played great defense and ran. Pretty much everything we wanted to do coming into the game, we were able to do so it was a great win for us."

Houston racked up 26 fast-break points compared to just two for the Jazz. Houston did most of its damage on the break in the first half, scoring 20 fast-break points after getting stops and easily getting past a Utah team stuck in neutral.

A day earlier, Lin attended the film documenting his meteoric rise in the NBA last season. The movie received great reviews, in addition to a standing ovation before Lin joined his producer and director on stage for a Q&A following the screening.

A Los Angeles Times report called "Linsanity: the Movie" easily "one of the most crowd-pleasing documentaries to play the festival this year."

As Josh L. Dickey of Variety noted, the film is a "buzzer-beater away from closing a distribution deal."

Considering "Linsanity" sold out at Sundance and brought in viewers from all over the country, it was reported that plenty of distributors should be lining up to bring the film to the world.

Evan Jackson Leong's heart-warming "Linsanity" was said to be one of exactly two feel-good documentaries at Sundance this year.

Despite the fact the film was sold out over all screenings at Sundance, people still turned up from miles away to wait in line while hoping to grab a spare seat.

Movie reviewer Robert Levin wrote: "The Jeremy Lin story is remarkable and faith-restoring."

Some fans commented during the Q&A with the filmmakers: "I was moved to tears watching this film. It carries such a powerful message."

Fencing
The Brandeis men's fencing team is off to a good start to the season, due in part to the contributions of Palo Alto High Noah Berman.

In their second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the the season, the Brandeis men posted a 4-1 record. The Judges rolled to three of their wins, defeating Tufts, 21-6; Vassar, 23-4; and Dartmouth, 19-8. In the toughest match of the competition, they overcame a 13-10 deficit to defeat Boston College, 14-13. Brandeis also suffered a 20-7 loss to host Brown University.

In the win over BC, Brandeis faced a three-point deficit with four bouts remaining. Berman got the momentum back on the Judges' side with a win in the final foil bout of the match.

Overall on the day, Berman had a fine afternoon for the foilists, going 8-2.

The Judges finished the day with an 8-6 record overall on the season, 7-3 in the NFC. With their portion of the schedule wrapped up and one more MFC meet to go, Brandeis is in fourth place in the conference, behind Sacred Heart (5-0), Brown (9-1) and MIT (8-2).
