The Kings ended two streaks with the win at Staples Center. First, they brought to a halt the Devils’ two-game winning streak that had many people talking of a colossal collapse after the Kings had won 15 of their first 17 playoff games and taken a 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final. More important, it ended a 45-year drought for the franchise that began play in 1967 and had made only one other Stanley Cup Final appearance in its history prior to this season.
The Kings put the game away early, scoring three times on one power play in the first period after Steve Bernier was whistled for a major penalty for boarding Rob Scuderi.
LA captain Dustin Brown, who had not scored a goal since Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, opened the scoring at 11:03 with a tip-in of a Drew Doughty slap shot. Jeff Carter followed that with a deflection of a Brown shot at 12:45 to quickly make it 2-0. Trevor Lewis made it 3-0 with a goal at 15:03 with 47 seconds remaining on the power play.

Lewis and defenseman Matt Greene scored 15 seconds apart with less than four minutes to play to put it away for LA.
Kings goalie Jonathan Quick won the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.
The Kings finished the postseason with a 16-4 record. The Devils went 14-10 in their run.
