I think the schedule already are easier than it used be. Finals of Masters and all matches  of the year-ending Master cup once were played best of five sets. Besides if you check the detail of the list of the best seasons, the player played more matches. e.g.

1969 Lod Raver, 106-16

1974 Jimmy Cornors, 93-8

1983 John MaEnroe, 82-3

2006 Roger Federer 92-5

2010 Raphael Nadal  67-9

2011 Novak Djokovic 70-6
