1. not afraid to go to Rafa's forehand, and in fact attach that side earlier even during cross court backhand to forehand exchanges. this actually naturalizes Rafa's forehand in some respect because Rafa's in-side-out forehand is actually a lot more rethal than his cross-court or down the line forehand.
2. show willingness to run around backhand to hit a forehand when recieving Rafa's 80 mph second serves and mixing up with attacking Rafa's second serve by rushing the net. the first break in the 3rd set is a direct result of this strategy. Rafa was up 40-15 and looked to have another confortable hold until Roger attacked the net, that seems to completely surprise Rafa. the combination of these different looks caught Rafa off guard and un-charateristically committed 2 straight errors under pressure.
Roger was the best players through out this year end event, and IMO, his biggest improvement(since US Open) is his backhand. it is amazing to see how someone of Roger's status and with all of his accomplishment in tennis and yet still is willing to work hard and improve! just like Rafa worked with his serve and adjusted his game to win the US Open.
If Roger keeps it up like what he has shown in this Tournament, he will be King once again in 2011 barring any major injury.
looks like teaming up with Paul Annacone has worked well for Roger. this win is going to give him more confidence. 2011 will be an interesting year.
