Can you explain the differences in meaning and usage of the three words: ceramic, china, and porcelain?
Feifei: 这个问题是关于 China. No, not that kind of China. 这里 china 指的是陶瓷，不 是中国。
Example
Oh what a beautiful blue and white china plate. It's gorgeous!
Feifei: 大家都知道我们中国是陶瓷的发源地 China is the home of china, 瓷器在中国已经 流传数千年。欧洲人一直以来酷爱来自中国的瓷器，尤其是 16 世纪清朝康熙年间盛行 的青花瓷。以至于现在在英国，人们常把陶瓷制品直接称为 China. Example
China comes in many shapes and sizes: bowls, plates, cups, saucers, jugs, teapots…
Feifei: 虽然很多陶瓷制品都被统称为 China, 不过这个称呼定义比较笼统也不精确。其实人 们现在常用 china 来形容用高岭土 kaolin clay 做成的高质量的瓷器。这种瓷器透光 看去十分透亮 translucent。这种高质量的精致瓷器其实应被称为 porcelain 瓷器。

Some rare pieces of old Chinese porcelain can cost millions of dollars.
Feifei: 那么也就是说，在日常生活中大家常用 china 来表示瓷器，而用 porcelain 来特指 高级的陶瓷制品。那么我们再来看 ceramic, 这个词包含的意思更广，除了可以表示 china, porcelain 以外，它还可以用来指瓷砖 tiles, 陶瓷下水管 drainpipes 和陶 瓦 terracotta.
Example
My home is full of ceramics – the floor tiles, the roof tiles, the drainpipes, the bathroom and kitchen tiles, and all my plates and bowls! I also have a big terracotta flower vase.

Feifei: My old china? 这里 china 和瓷器没有关系。My old china 的意思就是 my old mate 我的老友。这是伦敦押韵俚语的一个表达 ，rhyming slang 押韵俚语就是来 找一个和你想表达意思听起来相像的另外一个词。这个词的意思可以和你要表达的词完 全没有关系。这里 mate 被 china plate 来代替。
