Oh! how I love, on a fair summer's eve,
When streams of light pour down the golden west,
And on the balmy zephyrs tranquil rest
The silver clouds, -- far, far away to leave

All meaner thoughts, and take a sweet reprieve
From little cares; to find, with easy quest,
A fragrant wild, with Nature's beauty drest,
And there into delight my soul deceive.

在伦敦念医学院。面对枯燥的医学课程和校园的生活，诗人想要脱离它们，在绿树
和鲜花环绕的校园里，写下了这首诗。这首诗的韵式为：abbaabba, cdecde。

诗的韵式是彼得拉格式 (Petrarchan)。又称为意大利十四行诗的韵式。彼得拉格十四行诗因意大利诗人彼得拉格 (Petrarch) 而得名, 彼得拉格创立了这种韵式的十四行诗。前八行形成一个八分音阶 (octave)， 韵式为 abbaabba。后六行组成一个顿步 (sestet)， 为 1) cddcee；2)cdecde。
