I've found that a lot of Chinese or Asian will not be leaders or a lot of Chinese/Asian parents will not raise a leader because of this: we are afraid to sacrify ourselves for a bigger society other than our families. Yes, Chinese do sacrify for their blood related people, but out of that? Do we sacrify for a great cause, a greater community? A leader is not a person for power, he is a person for responsibilities. It's a harder work, riskier work. I wonder how many of us are ready for that, how many of us are ready for our kids. Think of the backgrounds of the most Asian immigrants here, surviving is the most important matter, it's hard for people to raise their kids to risk their comfort zone. On the other hand, I felt the thought of wanting to be a leader, only looking at the benefited side, is somewhat selfish and short sighted.
Good thoughts. Reading a book about leadership...
