Passport, 户口本 and 身份证 questions

Does anyone know what is the minimum validation time on a Chinese passport one needs for a peoson w. green card to travel from China to USA (6 month or 3 month?)

I was told by a friend that if I want to renew my passport in China, my Chinese 户口本 and 身份证 will be taken away. Is it true? Many thanks for your answers.
