这首歌单看歌名以为是一个有关爱情的歌曲，但仔细听一听，你就会发现，它其实是在讲述一个凄凉的故事。一个无家可归的孤独老人，一个悲寂的秋天，一所封闭的孤儿院外人行道的落叶堆里，一张纸条静静地躺着，一个小孩的笔迹写着一段悲伤的话：「谁捡到这张纸条，我爱你，谁捡到这张纸条，我需要你。我连个可以说说话的人都没有，所以不管你是谁，捡到这纸条的人，我爱你。」
孤独老人默默地看着，流下了眼泪，感同身受那份寂寞，老人的眼光向着孤儿院的方向搜寻，看到了一个把鼻子凑到窗前的小女孩，那一瞬间，他们就成为了朋友。整个冬天，他们隔着篱笆谈天说地、互相交换着一些小礼物。老人用木头雕刻出玩具，小女孩则在纸上画出美少女，两人一起开心地在冰冷的雨水中放声大笑。
可是有一天，当小女孩照例又奔向篱笆，却没有看到老人。她有着一种预感，知道老人再也不会回来了，伤心的小女孩于是她回到房间，拿出蜡笔，再度写下：「谁捡到这张纸条，我爱你，谁捡到这张纸条，我需要你。我连个可以说说话的人都没有，所以不管你是谁，捡到这纸条的人，我爱你。」
当年是初到美国，无意间听到这首歌，静静地聆听着，一种凄凉寂寥涌上心头。的确，有句流行的话叫“其实我们都很寂寞”，不论是苦苦挣扎的社会底层，还是高高在上的达官显贵，其实我们每一个人，在某个时刻就是那个孤儿院里的小女孩，是一个渴望被理解，被关爱的个体，我们隔着现实中无形的篱笆，和一些我们可以交流的人在做着一些有形和无形的交流，不同的只不过是玩具变成了手机，画纸变成了游戏，而这个篱笆就是无远弗界的网络。
歌曲的结尾无疑是凄凉感伤的，让人的心情无法平复。我们无法预知哪个人会在哪个路口经过，会俯身拾起我们写的那张纸条，成为我们那一段人生旅途中的挚友，而突然某一天，这个人会浮尘而去，这时，带着我们的孤寂和无奈，只好继续写出下一张纸条。
一首凄美绝伦的歌曲，一个孤独老人和寂寞小女孩?的短暂而美好的故事，一个伤心的结局，而故事在继续。在红尘凡界的茫茫人海中，每个人的相识都是奇妙的缘份，但愿我们都学会，珍惜生命中每一份美好的遇见。

后记：
介绍这首歌的时候想起两个人，一个是和歌有关的，就是齐豫翻唱的版本，和Mac Davis的版本风格迥异， 一个凄凉高亢，一个苦涩绝美，建议两个都听一听。一个是和人有关的，就是几年前的一个电视剧“温州一家人”中的女主角，一个孤身到意大利打拼的中国小女孩，遇到一个孤独的意大利老人，渡过一段短暂的欢乐时光，如果用这首歌做背景，堪称绝配。 ?
