注：
1. 这首诗所包含的隐喻来自希腊神话中的Pygmalion的故事。根据奥维德的《变形记》：Pygmalion是古希腊杰出的雕塑家，他爱上了自己雕塑出来的一个美女。莎士比亚在这里把大自然比作一位雕塑家。她先给这位男士做成一个女儿身，在做的过程中喜欢上了自己的作品，于是给她加上一个男性的器官，好让自己和其他女性享用。但是这个东西对作者是毫无用途的。这是一个贯穿全诗的暗喻，构思奇妙。
2. 判断到底莎士比亚是不是同性恋，有人认为这是一首重要的诗歌。在这首诗里，作者爱的是一位上流社会的男士，他具有女人的相貌，女人温柔的心。可以看出，作者对同性恋的行为没兴趣。
3. 第十三行“since she prick'd thee out for women's pleasure，”有人注释为“ Falstaff selects his military recruits by ‘pricking’ their names on a list, and ‘she equipped you with a prick (pennis).’（Duncan-Jones, p.20）
