A United States special forces operator and a British soldier were killed in northwest Syria on 30 March in an apparent improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the flashpoint town of Manbij.
The US Department of Defence (DoD) and the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed the death of their personnel the next day.
The DoD named its soldier as Master Sergeant Jonathan J Dunbar, who was “assigned to Headquarters, US Army Special Operations Command”. It said the incident was under investigation.
