Jaigaon Transport Association Stops Exports From Transporting To Bhutan
The Jaigaon Transport Association has stopped the transportation of exports from Jaigaon to Bhutan, sources share.
The Association’s President, Suman Prasad Shrivastav, said that all the goods- carrying trucks that move from Jaigaon to Bhutan and return on the route will now have to pay the GST.
The custom office that is located in the Jaigaon Sumsumi Market has not been providing proper services, which has led to several problems. The custom office is unable to afford the payment of even 10 trucks a day, while more than 200 trucks go to Bhutan every day.
Consequently, the trucks have to be stopped midway in the areas of Jaigaon, Manglabari and Dalsinghpara; which has also raised the concern of the goods being stolen from the trucks.
The President also said that a protest had been staged in the month of July. The custom department’s Commissioner had arrived at the site and had assured that the arrangements will be made soon.
The Association has decided to protest again since no action has been taken by the custom department. No trucks will now be going towards Bhutan until the custom department makes appropriate arrangements.
