Unlike traditional chemical thrust, the plasma thrust is always on, giving a little push to counter the drag. The chemical thrust does scheduled burn to maintain the orbit, and each burn is very short, no more than a couple of minutes, and that boost the satellite to a slightly higher orbit. Plasma thrust, however, won't need that since the drag is also very small, and can be canceled out by the thrust.
