I was dragged to do urgent legal research for a brief that is due today.

I knew the associate in charge can't get the brief done. I offered help two weeks ago already but he refused.

Now last minute, boss dragged me in to check the legal basis for that guy's argument. More than 50% of the arguments were baseless. No caselaw support. I just found out last night around 1am.

Now it is time to rewrite the whole brief. And the associate said he was not available, coz he was busy with some other case today.

Now my boss has to rewrite the whole thing by himself and panics. "could you devote your time 100% on this today?" he asked me. I said: yes of course.  "you know the other guy is not available today, right?" I said:"ok."  He said:"it is not ok! it is bad!!! it is horrible!! Now I am so desparate! I have to split the brief into half now and u work on half of it, ok?"  I said:"no problem"  He said:"please maintain your usual speed and quality." I said:"sure." He said:"I love working with you!"

Sigh.  I just knew it. I knew although I offered help two weeks ago and was proudly rejected by that guy, in the end, I am gonna be the one who wipes his ass.
