我是这么做的

1. Plead not guilty, go to court
2. If police not show up, you win
3. if police does show up, the judge sometimes still offer your traffic school in order to save court time
4. if you don't accept the offer, you still can discuss it with judge and police, you still have a little chance to win
5. if you lose, you still can appeal, when the case goes to appeal process, the judge may offer you traffic school again in order to save the court time

That's what I did for my ticket, I was not lucky, I went through all above steps and finally I got traffic school offer at appeal process. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask the jude to waive my fine or lower my fine. At least I didn't get the point finally.
