Tax Question

Hu*****and and wife are working in different state. They own a house in one state which has no state income tax, rent one in the other. How do they file the tax? Can they file jointly in one state, or do they have to file separately. How about state income tax? Do both of them have to pay state income tax to the state which requires income tax filing?
