you just need to pay self employment tax!

from what i understand, you are legal working. and the company can do this,(nonemployement compensation)
You just need to follow IRS rule, pay self employment tax (need to caculate from Schedule SE )and attach your schedule C.
You don't have to have your own business or be a contractor to be consider self-employed!!!
This is just another way IRS want portion of income you made.
