今天突然信箱里有一封信， 来自我们那块地的邻居。 信上说：
You will possibly be aware of a problem with the dividing wall between our two blocks.
When the block was leveled the ground level against our property was lowered and this has had the effect of making the wall unstable. This matter was discussed with the previous owner, Michael Hood and we agreed that the matter would be dealt with when the sit was developed.
At that stage, he was intending to develop the site himself, but I believe he has on sold the block to you.
I am happy to discuss the rebuilding of the wall in conjunction with your development, but I feel I must advise you that I hold the previous owner responsible for any costs involved. I assume this responsibility has now been passed on to yourself.
As here appears to be no timescale for your building work and because the wall is now becoming dangerous, and may collapse at any time, I feel it would be prudent to deal with the wall problem before your building starts.
文中提到的Micheal是我们买地时的经纪，我去问他，他就避重就轻的让我们看Dividing Fence Act. 可是这件事我们根本不知道，是发生在我们买地之前，我们真的responsible吗？他说" he hold the previous owner responsible for any cost involved" 是不是他不打算出一分钱呢，然后现在 "assume responsibility pass to us"?
