Please do google search by youself to find the law in your area and read your lease carefully. It appears to me that is too much for you to pay.

My case I didn't have a chance to clean the apt before I moved out.(dirty carpet and broken door). My landlord wrote me a not very nice email telling me that she was going to keep all the deposit $600. I spent several nights surfing on internet and found some rules that I could really benefit from. In result I got $400 back. Some people called you on the phone and asked for money and threatened to take you to the court, and then you are going to just give to him?
Read your lease and find the law and then argue with him, I believe that you could solve the problem.
