I've involved in a car accident. I discussed with the insurance company and paid the damage by myself, with some discount on the total amount. I wonder whether the insurance company will still report for such discount or not?

I recently applied for a credit card but was refused for the reason "charge-off or collection". I wonder what is the problem? I'll get a credit report soon. But I'd like to know what is the meaning of "charge-off or collection"? What kinds of situation will be under this catalogue? Is it possibly the insurance company still report the discount for my compensation?

I can not think out any other bad credit record I may have. Actually the compensation to the insurance will due in several days. I'd like to pay them only they agree not to damage my credit history.

Give me some idea. Thanks a lot for help.
