I bought Medela Pump in Style costs $250 after tax. I got several gift cards from baby shower and relatives so it didn't cost that much out of my own pocket.

Breastpump is necessary even if you plan to feed formula 'cause formula sometimes causes constipation. So I pump some milk everyday,mostly feed formula.

Also expressed milk is needed for breastfeeding,according to the lactation consultant from the hospital,to get your milk in good supply. 

$200 is not too much an investment for keeping baby healthy, I think. We bought the pump two weeks before birth.It couldn't be returned once openned.

Hosptial pump rental is around $70 per month, not worth it if you want commit to it.If you just want to give it a shot, that's alright.

BTW, after c-section it's much harder to kick off breastfeeding. You won't have enough energy to stick to the around-the-clock breatfeeding regime after surgery. If you do bottlefeeding at least someone else can give you a hand when you're tired and hurt.Do some pumping instead.
