thoughts regarding medical school application I would like to share.

Again I learned this from my close friend, who is in the admission committe of a 20-30 medical school. He told me that a ABC girl applicant claimed that her parents were so poor in China and they did not have chance to be a doctor. She felt so lucky to be here and got really motivated to go to medical school. The suggestion is that, at least based on my friend, do not play this kind of games anymore. It worked very well 10-20 years ago, not only in medical school application, almost in every area; one could complain about that China did not give them chance to do something and they can now do it here in the US. It is OK to play games, regardless whether the statement is true or not. In many cases, those claims were simply fake, but at least the applicant might got some sympathy point. Nowdays, it is not the right time to use this trick anymore. If the interviewer is from China, he may not like this kind of statement against China, like my friend. If the interviewer is an American, it will be difficult for him to get the "sympathy" feeling any more considering the increased ecnomic/political impacts of China.

We all know interviwing, to certain degree, is just a game. Cheap complaining China is not a good strategy, unless one can really say something deep to move the interviewer; i highly doubt an ABC can really say something that deep.

Complaining has never been a good strategy any way. My 2 cents.
